Review on Digital Converter Control Optical Compatible by John Ghattamaraju

Revainrating 4 out of 5

does what it's supposed to do

Used to convert the digital optical audio output from my Samsung TV to analog left and right audio channels. I connected a mono RCA to 3.5mm cable from the DAC output to the 3.5mm/Toslink input on two of my Echo studios. This is the only way to simultaneously stream stereo TV audio to the Echo Studio (other than connecting it to a Fire TV device). If you connect an optical cable directly to Echo studios connected via a stereo pair, audio will only come out of one of the speakers. I also tried using an active optical splitter to feed the optical signal to both speakers separately. This resulted in an echo as stereo sound was sent to each speaker instead of splitting the left and right channels for the left and right speakers. The DAC device did its job. The only drawback for 4 stars is the limited space. I had to turn the volume on the Echo speakers all the way down and then turn it up on the DAC unit to get it loud enough (connecting an audio amplifier or preamp might solve this problem). There is also a slight high-frequency hum, which is noticeable if the volume is not completely muted.

Pros
  • Sample rate support
Cons
  • Unbelievable price
