Review on BlueFire Professional Flashlight Submarine Underwater by Jay Liu

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Just ok, not great.

This is a normal dive light but it has some flaws/problems. For reference, I've owned about a dozen Chinese CREE dive lights over the years, so this isn't my first rodeo. I tested it but not underwater so I can't comment on its durability or how well it handles pressure and depth. Nonetheless. Conclusion: OK, but not outstanding. What's good: The build feels very solid, looks like it could take a few hits without falling apart. Comfortable in hand, light weight, can be a good club in a bar fight. The pressure switch has a color indicator that flashes briefly to show the power level, which is very convenient. What's not so good: Brightness seems to be about average for lights of this size (a "CREE light with two batteries"). Always look at brightness specifications with a little skepticism. The button switch seems to click every time it's pressed, but the feeling isn't 100% positive (to be fair the switch mechanism seems to be the weak point in all these lights, maybe it's as good as they are); The switch seems a bit soft to me but works (when new), not sure how it will hold up after many dives. The batteries are large (about twice the size of most LION batteries) and therefore bulkier and heavier than the more common 18650 LION batteries that are widely available. In theory, this should mean more capacity and longer runtime (which I haven't tested), but it also means you need a specific charger for that particular battery. I have other dive lights (small CREE flashlights with a battery) that I use as a backup or as a small flashlight in my BC to look through holes on a day dive; All other flashlights I have use smaller 18650 batteries. So when I take this flashlight on a diving trip, I need to take two types of chargers with me. For me this is a killer deal. Also a deal-killer: the included Chubby 26650 battery charger with this device is a USB charger (requires a USB charging box). That might be convenient for some, but not for me (and it seems that it takes a long time to charge the batteries). For me, the disadvantages of a USB charger outweigh the advantages of larger (probably higher-capacity) batteries; others may see it differently. I will return the device and look elsewhere.
