There is a pocket. freer than I expected. You can see in my photos that the top edge of the stretch fabric is loose enough to open the hole. (I removed the SSD and pulled back the rubber band in the second picture so you can see that this gap is not caused by the item or my modification.) The fabric offers no tension/resistance and my SSD (Sandisk Extreme) slips out easily even with small movements like folding, carrying and removing the computer from the bag. Gravity keeps things in your pocket when you're not doing any of it, but in this case I suggest you save a few bucks and just mount your drive on your desk. it should, but the edge of the bag doesn't look like it in the product photos, so I assumed the fabric would be attached at the back with just enough tension to lay flat and "hugging" what fits there. I also wanted to store some USB sticks in it, but it's definitely not reliable enough for that! I'm keeping it because I found a solution that at least protects my SSD well enough - a strong rubber band around the entire case, near the opening. This creates just enough tension to keep the SSD from falling out and doesn't affect the grip at all. I've used rubbing alcohol and a microfiber cloth to remove dust and grease from my computer's surface, and the silicone backing sticks strongly even to a rubber band. However, the rubber band will loosen over time and eventually break, so I have to keep a close eye on it. I don't see a way to do this without ruining the bag.) I won't be leaving the USB drives there as planned until I've checked (at home) that the rubber band is securely holding them from falling out. I might add a second rubber band just to be safe.
