Review on 🚪 Lorex Wi-Fi Video Doorbell Outdoor Security Camera - 2K QHD with Person Detection & Color Night Vision, Ultra-Wide Angle Lens & Two-Way Talk, Includes 32GB MicroSD Card [Requires Existing Doorbell Wiring] by Kyle Brown

Almost perfect - let me remove the watermark and date/time!

This camera replaces a few years old RCA/Hikvision doorbell that worked great at 1080p but the lens couldn't stand the weather. The kit that comes with the Lorex doorbell is top notch. Mechanical doorbell kit, horizontal and vertical tilt extenders, tools, instructions, etc. The Lorex Home app will suffice. I integrated this into my Blue Iris NVR which was pretty painless. The device comes with a 32GB microSD card, which is good, but you'll probably need something bigger. WDR works well when the sun moves throughout the day and the camera struggles with direct sunlight and shadows at different times. Force Color mode works well at night, but for added security we leave the house lights on all night. The light on the doorbell is new, but it's handy that it can flash when motion is detected as a sort of deterrent. Lorex integrates well with Alexa through the Lorex Home Skill and announces "Someone at the front door" on all Echo devices in your home at the push of a button. The ONLY thing stopping me from giving a 5 star rating is that this Lorex Home app does NOT have the ability to edit the overlay (Lorex logo and time/date). I need a clean video feed to my Blue Iris NVR, but it's just not possible. A real bummer, especially since I'm running sideways to get a full head-to-toe shot (the other cameras are looking at the rest of the porch). I called tech support and they said the Fusion NVR they sell may be able to edit the overlay, but I don't need or want to buy any of their NVRs. It seems that a VERY simple app update could add this feature. I have about 5 other IP cameras that I am currently using or have used in the past and EVERY of them have a web interface that you can log into to configure and disable the watermark. I'll keep checking if I need to fake the OEM firmware to remove this watermark! It costs money (no subscription fees!), just keep this one caveat in mind.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Some minor things
