There are many one star reviews complaining about rust in the water. It is important to note that these balls are made of 52100 Chrome Steel which is NOT STAINLESS STEEL! It is a medium-hard steel designed for waterproof, low-impact, and temperature-independent environments such as bicycle axle hubs. 52100 chrome steel will corrode completely when exposed to water and oxygen, therefore these balls are not suitable as a paint stirrer or polish. 304 stainless steel, the same material cutlery is made of, works best in humid environments like paint containers, but you may have to search more carefully to find ball bearings made from it. 440C stainless steel is a more common bearing material that is more corrosion resistant than 52100 chrome steel but not as strong as 304 stainless steel.
