Review on Energy Suspension 3 4142G Frame Camaro by Robert Yates

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works as advertised, good update

I bought these for my second generation Camaro 81 at a reduced price from Revain a few months ago. The brackets I had on the car were obviously old and worn. I bought them hoping they would improve my ride and handling. Purchasing from Revain went as usual, I had no problems with part numbers. All in all, this is a great product that really makes a difference in ride quality. Installation was mostly painless. The parts fit as expected and I was ready to go in about an hour or two. Pros: - Noticeable improvement in ride quality. Almost all the remaining squeaks I heard while riding are gone now (the rest of the suspension has already been upgraded). I've noticed that the car's suspension is now much more responsive and the handling is a bit stiffer, as expected. I will say that the Hyperflex PU material definitely outperforms OEM rubber parts. They are advertised to last much longer than rubber ones. Cons: - The front washers are huge making it difficult to fit perfectly onto the front radiator bushings. You may need to apply pressure to the case to get the holes perfectly aligned. For me, the front bracket has shifted a bit. Installation Notes: I was able to install them myself with just a jack (and stand). I also used WD40 and a standard mechanical ratchet and socket set. First I soaked everything in WD40 to loosen the badly rusted screws. I then slightly loosened all the fasteners on either side to make installation easier. I went one side at a time and then switched to the other side. Do not fully tighten the new bushings until you are done with the other side. You will need some patience as you will likely need to raise and lower the car slightly when installing the new bushings. You will also need to adjust the position of the jack when working with different bushings, raising the body slightly to have enough room to remove and replace the bushings. I'm having trouble with the front bushings on both sides of the radiator. I had to adjust the case a bit to line up the holes properly with the crowbar (very carefully of course). After that I had to adjust the hood as the adjustment I made caused it to be misaligned. After I was done, I gradually tightened each of the bushings evenly to the correct torque. Warning: I've heard that the force required to break the center and rear brackets can break the inner brackets (where the screws go). . They are very difficult to access, so be careful when weakening them. This hasn't happened to me, probably because I let the WD40 sit for a bit.

Pros
  • Body bushings
Cons
  • Minor things
