Works as advertised

TL;DR: This unit appears to work as advertised in a simple test. Flipping the data cable doesn't slow the device down to USB 2.0 like other adapters do. I bought a set of this "Upgraded Electop USB 3.1 GEN 2 Male to Female Type-C Adapter (2pcs), which supports 10Gb/s bi-directional charging and data transfer. Transfer, USB A to USB C 3.1 Converter (Black) " and received it on April 1st, 2021. Since the reviews are mixed I decided to give it a try. I was not paid to do this, nor does the product manufacturer know that I am doing this in advance. The device under test - Macbook Pro 2017, external SSD drive, USB-C to USB-A adapter, the USB 3.1 supported (note, not 3.2) and these adapters. I tested the SSD for the first time when connected directly via a Thunderbolt cable, I got 630MB per second. I then connected the SSD via a Thunderbolt cable to a male Type-C female adapter and then via a USB-C to USB-A adapter to match the cable type back to the Macbook Pro. This setup actually forced the data connection through the electop adapter. In theory, this combination should only have a negligible effect on speed. I didn't notice any reduction in speed when running the SSD directly through the Thunderbolt 3 port compared to the Macbook at the resulting speed from the adapter. I repeated the test by flipping the Thunderbolt cable. into the electop adapter to see if it works at USB 3.x speeds on one side of the adapter and USB 2.0 speeds on the other like my old C to A adapters do. He ran at full speed in both directions.
