I don't really know why I bought these but they definitely don't do anything for me. I put one in my tank, the shrimp don't care. I then added some liquid to the drain filter so the movement of the water could help dissolve the stone, but then I realized the bubbles would do the same job. My water is harder now but to be honest just go to your pharmacy and buy a bottle of Tooms or Rolaide it will do the same. If you're worried about the safety of the aroma, it's safe. Corey McElroy from Aquarium Co-Op (check him out) did this once, said it works great for him and it works just as well for me. white powder, probably calcium powder, after rinsing they are completely red from the bottom, and I don't even know what those stones are. Don't waste your time with them!
