I bought these for my Mazda because I miss the backlighting that I'm used to from Audis and most VWs. It's good if a small, dimmed light is always on in the car at night. This saves you from planning and blinding everyone. On the Mazda3, the USB ports just ended up in the darkest part of the center console, so they worked great. Tip: Red light is best for driving at night. Red light has longer wavelengths and is less harmful to the eyes. It's not very bright, but once your eyes get used to it, it provides you with the light you need without straining your eyes.
