As the IT admin of a small transportation company, we set up a large monitor so we could all see our cars on the road. After the overhaul, we needed a better solution than using an old Dell PC that was taking up valuable desktop space. We bought an Intel W5 Pro with an Atom x5-z8350 processor and 2GB of RAM running Windows 10 Pro. Since we only needed it to display a web browser, we figured this solution, which would also free up disk space, should work. After running 24/7 for a few months, I noticed the fan quit and the temperature started to rise. Finding a genuine replacement fan was not possible as the small fan was proprietary. Stumbled upon this while looking for a USB powered alternative, removed the case from the W5 and strapped it on top. Ugly? Sure, but as you can see the addition of a fan dropped the temperature from 70/80C to 36C! Average around 55 with moderate workload. It is acoustically quite quiet at minimum fan speed. I tried increasing the speed but didn't notice much of a difference. So it's best to keep it at the lowest level. The monitor has a USB port that it draws power from and the nice thing is that it goes to sleep when the monitor does. It's not connected to the compute board as I didn't want to put any more strain on the small device. So. great little fan for $10. It blows well, works quietly, 3 speeds. I highly recommend it.
