Review on Nonstick Durable Ceramic Coating Cookware by Gary Knop

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Five stars with some caveats.

This purchase replaces the same frying pan I bought and used daily for two years. It seems many people are passionate about this pan in one way or another, so I'll try not to raise any emotional objections. I will try to compare advertised claims with real applications. Complaint #1: Non-stick coating with no use of lubes. The video of smores and melting/burning cheese sliding out of this pan is disingenuous. Both products contain a large amount of fat on their own. There is nothing surprising here. Fatless Egg Boiling Video, Not So Fast. It may have retained some water for the first few weeks of use, but quickly waned. The truth is that a very small amount of fat is required to achieve this goal, as well as a low heating temperature. Perhaps cooking the s'more first and simply wiping the pan down with a dry paper towel will leave enough oily residue to make that claim. After washing with soap, not so much. Complaint #2: Scratch Resistant. Definitely better than average, although I'd think twice before breaking eggs in a pan or using a metal meat mallet to ring a dinner bell! Claim #3: Dishwasher safe. Does this statement mean that this pot or your dishwasher is safe? Yes, it really is safe for your dishwasher! However, your pan will likely slowly die off after repeated washing. This largely depends on the chemicals you use in the dishwasher. Conclusion? Best hand wash with a minimum of soap. Claim #4: The pan can withstand oven temperatures of up to 500 degrees. Well, this one is just stupid. While the food is cooking in the pan, the temperature of the pan never approaches 500 degrees. A pen can, so what! It's made of steel! Do you want to test your claim in an absolute sense? Put the empty pan in a 500 degree oven, wait 30 minutes and then come back to me. The bottom line is not to overheat an empty pan in the oven or on the stovetop. Conclusion: Overall, this pan performed better than any other nonstick pan I've ever used. It offers better non-stick potential, longer shelf life and better value for money. And no, this won't be the last non-stick pan to buy unless you decide to boycott this type of cookware in the future or forego the chore, I mean the fun of cooking!
