I bought this unit to replace the Drobo 5D. The Drobo worked well, but what I liked about the D5-300C was its unique 2+3 single configuration. I have a 2 drive rig in Raid 0 for photo speed and again the speed isn't as fast as my Drobo but I think some of this could be due to my Drobo using a 64GD SSD cache drive has installed. I'm still working on small configuration changes and backing up my data online, but as soon as I do, speed tests. My setup: 2 x 3GB NAS drives in a Raid 01 3GB NAS drive in one (These three drives came from my Drobo. The workmanship seems to be good. Yes, many of them are plastic and only time will tell show its durability but it It seems well built and if you follow the instructions and instructions to PLEASE even follow the steps to remove the drive bay and reinstall it properly you should be fine.Again this is just a first impression case and with a single 2+3 configuration it gives me a lot more flexibility than my D Robo 5D gave me and if you can get it for the sale price of $199 with a $50 discount it's worth it .
