MESTEK infrared thermometer received on time and safely There are very few reviews about the product and none mention accuracy. They all mention how easy it is to use. All thermometer guns of this type are used the same way - pull the trigger and read the temperature from the screen. That's not a big recommendation for this product. If ease of use is all you're looking for, temp guns sell for under $20 everywhere. No additional money needs to be spent here. Assuming the gun was accurate, I paid extra money for an ambient temperature readout and a color screen, which I thought would be easier to read outdoors. The gun is not accurate in its primary function of measuring an object's temperature, so all other functions are of little importance. The readings I got by following the manual and adjusting the emissivity for the object are pretty inaccurate. It's accurate enough to show that ice is colder than a hotplate, so I know it's doing something. The ice enters at about 49° and the red-hot plate at about 180°. If you just need to know if the surface is generally cold or hot, this works. So it works the same as holding your hand close to the object you are looking at to feel radiant heat or cold. If you need to know with some degree of accuracy how hot or how cold it is, that's not great. If you're reading it right, there's nothing to miss as it's a pretty basic device. If you don't mind being inaccurate for whatever reason, there are much cheaper devices that are likely to be just as inaccurate.
