This is the second generation Apple Pencil. I liked my first generation but I was happy to try the new and updated version. First, I like that the pen charges with a magnet that is placed on top of the iPad, rather than through the iPad's charging port. The ability to recharge in the second version is by far my favorite change. Also, the new pen has a touch option that allows you to double click on the front/top of the pen and choose the setting you had before depending on how you set it up. I've personally used this feature in Pro Create to switch between the brush/pencil and eraser options, but that too took some getting used to and I'm still using the old method. This is personal preference only. My least favorite difference between the two pens is the size. The second pencil is heavy and slightly larger than the first. I don't mind the thickness of the pencil, but the heavier it is, the less time my arthritis and FMS affected hands can use the pencil in one sitting. Overall I still love my pencil but will be looking for the next one that's a little lighter.
