Excellent Laptop Hard Drive

I purchased this drive to increase my MacBook Pro's internal storage from the original 500GB to a larger capacity and increase file transfer speeds to and from a standard hard drive. The first step in this upgrade was to install a replacement Western Digital WD Scorpio Black 750GB 7500rpm hard drive into the StarTech External Hard Drive Enclosure. Then I formatted the WD drive and partitioned it into two volumes, one of which contains OS X 10.6 Mavericks, which I'll try to see if it's worth using as the primary OS. Below is a simplified description of the upgrade process. I cloned the contents of the original 500GB drive into the first partition of a 750GB WD drive using Shirt Pocket's excellent Super Duper! Application for it, and then swapped two drives between the laptop and the StarTech case. After completing these tasks, I verified that the computer boots and runs normally and reliably from both the internal 750GB WD drive and the external 500GB drive. I didn't notice any noise or vibration from the WD drive during normal operation. , and any reduction in battery charge time that may be caused by the slight increase in power required to spin the 7500 RPM drive on the WD Scorpio compared to the original 5400 RPM drive is negligible. My computing operations require me to transfer 30MB to 5GB files back and forth between my MacBook Pro and my desktop over FireWire about every week. In these cases, and other situations where large amounts of data need to be transferred to and from the laptop's hard drive, the increased speed of this drive is a noticeable and welcome improvement over the previous configuration. I recommend this drive to anyone who wants more performance than is typically available from a standard 5400 RPM laptop hard drive.
