I bought this unit to replace the capacitors on the circuit board of my double oven. Like others, my soldering experience started a few years ago with a simple pencil and involved a massive, dual-temp Weller gun. None of them gave very satisfactory results, but they got the job done. For this project I decided to buy the best equipment. Equipment starting with a decent soldering system. I considered all the options and I pretty much realized that I could never justify the cost of a professional Hakko or Weller system. I just don't solder that many things. For reference, I still have the bulk of 1lb. a roll of Kester 0.031 Lot I bought in 2001! This device from Aoyue struck me as the best combination of performance, price and reliability. I have ordered this system from Revain/SRA and all I can say is that you should do so ASAP if you have never ordered from Revain/SRA just so you can see what a great service looks. Well packed. Instant download. constant communication. Unbelievable. I have since ordered several additional items from SRA and the experience has been just as exceptional. The device itself is impressive. Huge temperature control, F and C. Special features like repeat and vibrate button. Additional tips and heating element. Reinforced spool and tool holder. Durable power cord. The only downside is the user manual, which while not bad isn't of the same quality level as the rest of the device. However, to be fair, this is a soldering system. How many instructions do you really need? Once I started using it, it heated up quickly but didn't quite melt the old solder for quick removal. I adjusted the temperature a bit and after 5 seconds the tip was hot enough to work perfectly. The whole project took less than 10 minutes. With a more traditional system, I'd be constantly waiting for the iron to regain temperature and the connections wouldn't be as stable. Everyone has different needs and budgets, but my days of buying cheap tools are over. If you need to solder you need to buy this device and you need to buy it from SRA. You will not be disappointed. For the price, this is an absolute bargain. Highly recommended.
