It took me a little practice to learn how to use this tape, but now that I've sewn a pair of pants it's a real help to me. . It seems to work easier with polyester than denim, but I was able to hem both ways. I am a blind single parent with a 9 year old boy and need hemmed pants all the time. Here's how I do it: I wash my pants, turn them inside out and roll them up to the desired length. Then I sew the back seam with a hot steam iron. I use full steam power so I don't melt the polyester pants my son is wearing but keep the iron on the highest setting. I've found, that attaching the tape along the top edge of the material prevents it from coming undone if the legs get stuck in the pants. I simply measure the tape off the roll and rip it off with my fingers, carefully lay it out as flat and smooth as possible, then adjust the pant material to ensure it's flat and smooth for ironing. I use an iron on high heat with full steam and place it on half of the glued area, press firmly and hit the steam button a couple of times. I hold it there, slowly count to 20 and then take it straight, go to the other half and repeat. Then I burn my fingers and check the first half as I can't wait for it to cool and make sure all the tape has melted. I do this for both sides of each leg, so a total of four strips are used for one pant. In my experience, the tape melts better without burning the garment when steam is used in the pressing. Alright, the taped trousers have gone through about five wash and dry cycles on a normal wash and are holding up well. Even blind I can hem my trousers in about ten minutes. I'm a veteran US Marine so I don't mind a bit of pain and my son doesn't wear down the cuffs of his new pants when he walks on them. Make sure you measure and position the tape carefully as solving it is a real chore for me. Although I was able to rip it off without damaging my clothes, I was unable to remove the residue from the area, on which I first experimented. One more thing, there is a very long cellophane wire on the roll of hem tape, so long that at first I thought it was the tape itself. You can iron it as many times as you like and it won't stick to your clothes at all. However, this will end up burning the underside of your new Teflon coated iron, so make sure you unravel the real edge tape. This probably won't be a problem for those who can actually see the product.
