I have an adult bearded dragon and I've tried everything in the books. The tiles are too slippery and cold. The newspaper must be changed daily. The carpet soaks up all the liquid from parasite-causing feces, and you don't want to wash and disinfect it EVERY time you have beard poop. Not to mention her nails got stuck in the carpet and my poor Castiel's nail ripped right out of her finger! Ground walnut shells are very unsafe as they are sharp, contain no nutrients and have the highest risk of damage. Vita-Sand is very VERY dusty and will penetrate and dirty your bearded eyes and nose. Also, it's way too expensive! The smell is very strong, I can smell it all over the house. When it gets wet it turns into a thick muddy texture and this is not without its dangers as it also poses a high risk of crushing. When I found a reptile substrate, it was God sent! Guys I'm not kidding, this is amazing! It is 100% digestible, completely dust-free, non-staining, odorless, contains natural strontium and magnesium, is a calcium substrate, and dissolves safely when ingested. This is the number one substrate for bearded dragons. And bearded people love sand. I can absolutely recommend this product. The best part is that it's very cheap! $20 for a 20 lb bag and you only have to change it every 4 months. It's $60 a year. This is too good to be true. Not to mention my Castiel loves it! While I wouldn't recommend feeding them in a substrate, it's good to know that if something gets in their mouth they will digest it. I am in love with this product because I am in love with my beard and I want it to have a better life thanks to the reptile I no longer live in fear. Substrate is always a risky choice, but it's the answer to people. Our dragon children need this for a long, happy and healthy life. To attempt! Do that! Get it now! Sincerely, mother of the dragon.
