My proven system has only 2 filters: sediment filter, then run through fabric softener etc, then 5 micron filter after fabric softener from UV light. My well is shallow and "dirty" - some rust, some solids. I've tried 20 microns (the most readily available and cheapest) but it's too coarse and bounces too much. I've tried 5 microns (both pleated and spun nylon). Gets rid of almost everything, but almost too well since I have to replace them every 6-8 weeks (yes, in theory they can be washed, but the washed filter is basically only 50-60% more efficient than it is) new to my opinion Experience). This 10 micron filter is for my fountain, my favorite spot. I can get 3 months out of one (which is pretty good for my health). They're pleated, so the price is reasonable (especially when they're on sale). I'm surprised how few manufacturers make 10 micron sediment filters. Hydronix is a reliable company and I have had no problems with these filters. But it would be nice if there were other options (as a bit of competition would probably bring the price down a bit).
