While it can reach speeds in excess of 300MB/s in real-world benchmarks, it's almost as fast as internal SATA in most cases. PS: Copying small files always takes longer. Large sequential data files and image cloning are performed at maximum speed. Conclusion: It is a very practical tool, well designed and certainly suitable for both SATA and USB.
