Review on 🚴 Ritchey SpeedMax Cyclocross Tire - 700c x 32mm, Ideal for Cyclocross, Gravel, and Adventure Bikes, Clincher, Wire Bead by Nick Mitchell

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great for cyclocross and soft gravel, but doesn't offer enough puncture protection for commuting.

I installed these tires on my commuter bike that will be used temporarily as a CX and gravel breaker while I complete my new install. For light off-road use they are great for the price. The mud-shedding design works well and I didn't feel any slippage from the saddle when climbing gravel hills. 32mm is too thin for loose and coarse Kansas gravel. So if you plan to do Dirty Kanza on it, choose 40mm. The bike has ridden a lot of fresh gravel that hasn't been powdered yet, and I wish my tires were at least 5mm wider and 20psi softer. The SpeedMax doesn't have enough puncture protection for commuting. I lost 4 cameras last week due to small spikes and a tiny shard of glass so be careful using them for your daily commute. I will definitely be riding these tires again for the upcoming cyclocross season, but for gravel I will be using something much wider. Loops and heavier ones for commuting.
