I bought this unit to be able to record videos played on my laptop from YouTube and other sites onto a DVD burner hard drive to create a DVD of various accumulated funny videos that come across me while I'm surfing. So if I want to show it to someone or just watch it again, all I have to do is play the DVD. No internet required, no searching for clips again, no need to deal with "advertising" again and so on. My DVD recorder has an HDMI output but NO HDMI input. It has an S-Video input, so this converter device plugs between my laptop's HDMI output and my DVD burner's S-Video input. It works great and produces a great picture (for 480P S-Video signal). Very quick and easy connection and the converter device provided everything I needed except for the one required HDMI cable. Personally, I always leave the converter plugged into my DVD burner so I'm "ready to go" without further ado! The only "fault" I see with this box is that it does NOT have an "ON/OFF" switch on the converter, so I have to "plug/unplug" the 5V DC connector on the converter box " to control power-on unit. I don't leave it on all the time unless I'm using it. But that's a very small "complication" in the whole scheme of things. This certainly does NOT change my VERY POSITIVE opinion/rating of this product. and the device worked perfectly the first time, right out of the box!
