Review on πŸ”Œ Effortless Electrical Control: Intermatic HA01C WiFi-Enabled Outlet for Hassle-Free Settings by Andrew Gomez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Pleasantly Surprised

I bought a set (5) of HA01C sockets to remotely control my lights in my main living area. My family lives in a mid 1920's building and unfortunately some rooms did not have wiring to turn on the overhead lights. To avoid hitting walls and running new pipes, we decided to use ZWave technology to allow us switchable control of our lighting. We could have opted for a device module instead of sockets and eliminated the electrical installation altogether, but we wanted a cleaner look. The HA01C is a fairly easy install when you can conveniently replace standard household outlets and switches. The rear of the unit is fully sealed but there are 3 outlets for connecting hot, neutral and ground wires. I have an old circuit and had to use my line as ground, which didn't affect performance in any way. One point to consider is the size and depth of the outlet. If you are retrofitting an existing single box then installation will be much easier if your box is deeper than stock. The jar fills almost the entire cavity of a standard-sized box, and a couple of wire nuts neatly ties it all up. If you have the opportunity to replace your box with a deeper model, I encourage you to do so early. In order to use the ZWave functionality of these devices, you also need a master controller; As this was our first test of the technology, we settled on the basic Intermatic HA07C, although many others are available ([.]) The controller walks you through adding modules to the network, and from there, operation is refreshingly simple . Aesthetically, the sockets look like any other and require a simple Decora faceplate (not included). There's a small green LED that lights up when the sockets have power, but that didn't bother our application. Finally, there is an audible "click" when the outlet turns the device on or off; The sound is no louder than the floor lamp turning off, but you must know it exists.

Pros
  • Great Price
Cons
  • Big and Bulky
