Review on Aqara Security Camera: HomeKit Secure Video Indoor Camera with Night Vision and Two-Way Audio by Kyle Robinson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

If you want a homekit camera this is probably the one

I really like this camera. Build quality is very similar to the Wyze camera, except the Aqara costs about 2.5 times as much. Letting go is the hardest thing for me. Wyze cameras are so much cheaper that I'm having a hard time falling completely in love with this camera. What makes this camera great is that it works so well with Homekit. I converted my Wyze cameras to RTSP and via Homebridge and the plugin can use them with Homekit but it still lacks the features you get from Aqara. Watching live video with Wyze takes about 3 seconds after clicking good day. With Akara, it's almost instantaneous. I bought these cameras primarily for Homekit's Talk feature which is perfect for checking on your kids during Covid distance learning and letting them know I'm watching them when I'm in another room. Conversation feature is not available with Wyze and Homekit. There's also a facial recognition feature if you need it, thanks to Aqara's built-in Home Kit integration. Finally, privacy gets a little more private as the device goes through Homekit. At home, your live broadcasts do not go via the Aqara cloud, but directly to you via your local network. When you're not at home, Apple streams and records. If you trust Apple, that's good. I do. It took me a long time to rebuild my Wyze cameras to do half of what Aqara cameras do natively. So if time is money, I should beat the higher price of Aqara. However, home automation is still a hobby of mine, so the time spent tinkering was probably worth it.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Safety
