It's been a while, smaller candles are definitely preferable, but larger or what I consider 'regular' candles takes a couple of hours to fully melt the candle . As for the low price, I think it does its job well. I also feel safe because the auto-off function works on time. So if I forget to turn it off after work, I find that it's already turned off. It has a dual purpose as some other reviews say. Edit: Used as a coffee warmer for my Starbucks ceramic mugs; worked great! Usually my coffee cools down in about 30 minutes, it stayed at a great hot temperature that was comfortable to drink without scalding! Great multipurpose use! Hope that helps!
