Review on πŸͺ’ 50 Derby Extra Double Edge Razor Blades - Stainless Steel Blades for Superior Shaving Experience by James Shavers

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Recommended for soft shavers/Not recommended for aggressive shavers

I've tried Derby's before but it's been a long time so I was dying to try them again. I'm a big fan of wet shaving and have a whole collection of different tools for it. I have blades from all major manufacturers. Let me share my thoughts on Derby blades with you: 1. They are meant for everyday use in a medium sized blade, that's very obvious. They're not necessarily blunt, but they're not aggressively sharp either.2. They are clearly best suited for soft razors that are not sharp. You'll notice in my photo that I'm using a fairly aggressive adjustable razor. When wide open, these blades will last all day even if they barely glide. On the other hand, these blades work quite well with a very moderate impact on the blade, but BBS.3 requires multiple passes. I shaved both arms and legs (cyclists) with a blade and it was still almost as sharp as when it was unpacked. This shows me again that this is for soft razors and a gentle shave while staying sharp a little longer than, say, a Feather Blade (I can kill a Feather Blade in one shave of arms and legs). Overall, I think this is a respectable, everyday, soft blade for soft razors. It doesn't work well with aggressive razors, adjustable or non-adjustable. Because it's a medium-sized blade, it pulls too hard on aggressive razors. For example use it with a classic Gillette razor or some of the softer Parkers razors etc. For me this is a 3 star blade that gets the job but doesn't excel at anything. It is a purchase, but a purchase without enthusiasm. Hooray!
