Awesome shave!: Razors and blades

I recently bought my first DE razor after getting fed up with the very high prices for good consumables. I'm so glad I did. My first shaving experience was with Astra blades. I was unimpressed and worried that I had spent $80 on my fancy razor. My beard is moderately coarse and I can only shave well with a good razor. The Astra blade required using both sides for a single shave and was a bit of a hassle. After more research I bought some feather blades. Shaving with a feather blade is like…

Pros
  • Holding my fists
Cons
  • Hard to say

Blades are not all created equal. I've tried a few brands. The Derby Extra was a 'gold spot' for me, they trim my beard well but don't have that super harsh aggressive feel. A few blades I've tried, even the most expensive ones, that claim to be less aggressive have caused me burns and/or cuts. You cut my throat. These blades also tend to last much longer. If I rinse well and pat dry, and every shave, I get 4-5 days, even more. Extra covers really make a difference, I will be getting them from…

Pros
  • Very good value for money
Cons
  • Unbelievable price

Your ticket to a close, cheap shave

My escape from the big business of cartridge shaving is complete with a combo of derby blades and a premium safety razor. Let's start with the blades: I had almost no nicks - two tiny ones and that's it. And a pack of 50 blades for 10 cents a week will last me 50 weeks. I change sides of the blade every day. Finally, using the excellent Cremo shaving cream has improved my shave, the blade rinses off easily and I'm saving even more money.

Pros
  • Worth your money
Cons
  • Not as good as it says it is

Long lasting on razors and blades

Many years ago. maybe 8 years, I bought a bunch of different brands. Although the "Feder" brand was the sharpest, these extra derby blades were sharp enough to outperform all other brands I've tried (about 7 or 8 marks). 50 blades should last me at least 5 years. Cheaper than any store I've ever bought them from. I have thick facial hair and each side of the blade will do about 6-8 shaves. Additionally, they're "pleasant" to use and don't cause me a severe razor burn on even the most aggressive

Pros
  • One year trial
Cons
  • Available in white only

Everyday blade for men

Here's the thing. everyone has a different combination of skin sensitivity and mustache type, so the key to a great shave is finding the perfect razor and blade combo; also affects the aggressiveness of the razor. (If you try this blade and it doesn't work for you, then keep looking for the perfect combination - it exists.) What may surprise you is that "sharper" isn't always better. Feather blades, for example, are known for their sharpness. I've found that the new Feather blade in my Merkur…

Recommended for soft shavers/Not recommended for aggressive shavers

I've tried Derby's before but it's been a long time so I was dying to try them again. I'm a big fan of wet shaving and have a whole collection of different tools for it. I have blades from all major manufacturers. Let me share my thoughts on Derby blades with you: 1. They are meant for everyday use in a medium sized blade, that's very obvious. They're not necessarily blunt, but they're not aggressively sharp either.2. They are clearly best suited for soft razors that are not sharp. You'll…
