Review on Kingpin Cooling Thermal Grease 1 5G by Luis Blaschko

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Reliable Performance

I can count on the Kingpin KPX not to degrade performance, dry out or chalk, or fully push out GPU or CPU die heatsinks. It stays damp and easy to clean even after 6 months of use on a PC that never turns off. This is the paste I prefer for open loop water cooled systems that I know I won't be taking apart anytime soon. Because of the price, I don't typically use it for short-term use. In this case I will use the MX-4, which is also a really excellent paste, even if the performance is only slightly less efficient. With KPX, I prefer to apply with a spatula and completely cover the entire IHS or Matrix. It spreads very well and stays in place even when the spreader travels over the same area (unlike the Thermal Grizzly). Make sure your KPX arrives in good condition. Like any other thermal paste supplied worldwide by sites like Revain, it can dry out and become almost unusable. Out of about 10 KPX orders I've only dried 1 3g tube with the first 1/2g. Buy from Amazon if it's reliable enough to get a good product. When ordering the Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut, I had more orders than completely dry and non-functional ones. The best cryonaut tube I got was a very large syringe. I stopped using Kryonaut for several reasons. One reason is that you cannot rely on a new working handset. The other is that even when fresh it is very difficult to spread and you only get one chance to apply it. If you pass the same area with the spreader, it will rise again and leave the IHS. So in most cases you will apply too much. The product doesn't like being applied with a cross or dot method. it will squeeze, but unevenly, especially without preheating. But the MAIN reason I stopped using it entirely is because my last batch of Thermal Grizzly had to admit they shipped out a pretty big bad batch. And I was one of the customers who received it. Applying the Thermal Grizzly scratched and cleaned my IHS and water block (no problem), but also badly scratched the nickel IHS and copper cold plate. And YES, those were real copper parts, not aluminum. So something in the mix was pretty aggressive in terms of abrasion, but also chemically. That was the last straw. Switching to KPX was much easier. Performance is just as good for ambient cooling, and the product is much more user-friendly. But I would like the KPX to spread better and the price go down a bit compared to the size sold. We need more options IMO.
