I recently had a power outage due to a thunderstorm. After that my Zyxel NSA325 didn't get up anymore. I restarted and it showed up. I logged in and found the fan failed at "0 RPM" and it was REALLY hot at 148 degrees Fahrenheit. em? Seems fair since it was built in 2012 (but I got it in 2014 and have been using it ever since). I tried to find ANY disassembly instructions in my saved manual and on the internet. This time Google/YouTube let me down. But after unplugging it and looking at it, "I thought it wouldn't be TOO heavy," did it? There were only a few screws: 4 on the bottom and 2 on the front (after removing the drive cover and bezel) and 4 for attaching the fan cover and fan to the case. Once everything was removed, everything fell apart fairly easily. The fan had a 3 pin connector which I unplugged. So I googled "3-pin PC fan" and found many matches. I was curious about the third cable and found that it was for the RPM output (which "knows" the NAS drive that it was at 0 RPM). I tried an old fan on my PSU that was set to 12V and it wasn't spinning. I pushed him several times and almost every time he tried he gave up quickly. So I took my calipers and found that the square fan measures 60 x 60 x 10mm. I googled and of course Revane came up. And since I pay for Prime, I checked it out and then ordered this fan. It came two days later (although other things were and are being delayed due to a local ice storm). I first checked the pinout of the new fan which is compatible and then tested. it worked well. Assembly was much easier (except the screws fell out a couple of times and had to be found, which took almost the same amount of time). Now my NSA325 is happily humming around 2400-2600 RPM (not sure why they vary so much but I bet it's the software) and a comfortable 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Much better. In the near future it will be necessary to perform a full diagnosis of the disks, since the disks are almost 2 years old (I have already replaced the originals). Now the next problem.
