Inaccurate thermometers

I bought this to check the temperature in my fridge/freezer as I was concerned that it would be accurate in cooling. I have another non-contact temperature sensor that the laser no longer works on. It still shows the exact temperature, just missing a visual reference and I used it to test the accuracy of this device. Where my old gauge in the fridge read 32-33 F (as expected, my salad froze sometimes), this gauge reads 0-10 F depending on the emissivity setting. As expected, my known reliable sensor in the freezer read 0F. This reads -40 F regardless of the emissivity setting. It's definitely not that cold there. I sent it back and need to consider another replacement option.

Pros
  • Infrared thermometer
Cons
  • poorly designed
