Close, but no cigar. NOT a perfect fit.

Revain says this fits a 2000 Ford Ranger - as does the seller's detailed description. The seller's title is missing from the 2000 Ranger. The description also says it will fit a wide range of Mazda B pickups, which are quite similar to the Ford Ranger. The wire coming from the starter in the photos in the listing was not what I received. Just a terminal with a 1/4 inch blade. Conclusion: the screws are fine, but the terminal where the wire from the ignition switch connects (small) is on the opposite side of the magnet. It seems that this is a small problem. , but the OEM battery positive lead is "keyed" so that it will not fit onto the solenoid battery stud. Even if it did, the "reverse" connection of the ignition switch would result in the battery lead interfering with that connection . I've tried reversing the connector plug but to no avail. You CAN make this starter motor fit, but this requires twisting and "turning it upside down" on the positive battery cable, which puts stress on the cable and causes it to rub against the frame and motor mount - not good. I only had to install and remove the new starter 3 times to finally get it reasonably fit. I need to buy another starter (from a real auto parts store) because I don't trust this setup. But really, to start this truck now, I think I'll eat a $50 appetizer. Even if I spend another $80-$90 on a proper starter and have to crawl back under the truck, I'm still saving dollars compared to buying a $150 starter at my local store and hundreds of dollars compared to buy a $150 starter. the store does that for me. Updated - It turns out that when you buy a (supposedly) correct starter from the major online auto parts retailers, you get a starter that doesn't fit either. Got a new ACDelco and it's wrong too. Maybe the ones everyone sells as exact substitutes are just not exact. The best option I can think of is to replace the battery positive cable at the same time. This allows you to twist the tab to release the connector on the solenoid. Of course, if the positive battery cable you receive is an exact replica of the OEM cable, you're back in the same boat.
