I bought our Nikon AW110 just over a year ago in preparation for a family vacation to Florida. We were destined for the usual tourist destinations including Disney World, Sea World and Daytona Beach and I needed something that I could protect from rain and sun, surf or grass. Due to its size (approx. 4.25" x 2.5" x 1"), it is easy to carry around or put in your pocket or purse. Out of the box, the camera takes weak pictures. You need to go to the soft menu to increase image quality (up to 4608 x 3456) Image quality is pretty decent after that. At larger image sizes, decent 8" x 10" prints can be made even with a little cropping. Waterproof side, we wet it with no ill effects survived the water slides at amusement parks and a few trips to the hotel pool. Better yet, we have some great underwater photos. Make no mistake. This is not a DSLR replacement. The downsides to this camera are a little harder to explain. At least it's a relatively affordable one and small point-and-shoot cameras and shoot.β To keep the size and price down, Nikon has used less complex and more compact optics and imaging chips, as well as a compact battery pack finds. These are all pretty standard art for a camera of this size, but it detracts from the camera's overall performance. Moving images and fast shots can create varying degrees of blur in your shots. To put this in perspective, we (mainly me and my 11 year old daughter) took about 80 photos at the Sea World dolphin show. I deleted about a dozen photos due to our own framing issues; It's like chopping off a dolphin's head while trying to catch it when it jumps out of the water. I deleted about 15 more shots due to blur. About 50 remaining shots have turned out great. We have great photos of dolphins jumping six feet (or more) out of the water, and even the water droplets running off the dolphin are clearly captured. Flash memory is pretty cheap these days. So take lots of photos. you will be rewarded And going back to my previous comment on the battery, battery life can be lackluster. You'll probably want to buy and carry a spare battery for longer day trips, especially if you plan on taking enough shots (100+). One battery is probably enough for shorter adventures where you only get a few dozen shots. In summary, this is an excellent pocketable and waterproof camera. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. Overall, the image quality is quite pleasing. But its size and price can make it a bit like Dr. Make Jekyll and Mr Hyde Look: Some of your images will be amazingly sharp, while others will be blurry.
