Last update 8 May 2018 I was able to use this machine on a fresh dog stain today and it didn't live up to my expectations. While preparing breakfast one of my dogs left a small pile on the carpet and another stepped on it leaving paw prints all over the room. As soon as they finished eating, I got out the carpet cleaner and started on the stains. Eventually I'll have to go through it again before they leave. I expected that from old stains I wanted to remove but not fresh ones. My other two complaints are related to the design. I noticed that there are 8 small screws in the dirty water tank and they are all rusted. I will try to replace them with a stainless steel screw but they should have had that from the start. In addition, a lot of dog hair has accumulated above the brushes, which have stuck to the clear plastic cover. Cleaning is tedious and requires removing several bolted parts. Both issues are of very poor quality. Therefore, after further use of this product, I have found that I do not recommend it. Mine arrived today and when I assembled it the handle lowering knob was not set correctly. It looks like the wheel will need to be removed to properly reset the part. It's pretty minor and easy to fix, so I tried calling Hoover customer service to have it taken care of. After more than 2 hours of phone calls and numerous failures, I failed. In fact, I see this more as a Hoover failure. Not once in all my calls has anyone tried to help me effectively. I have always used Hoover products and have found their quality to be very good. This was a big disappointment. I'm still trying to get it fixed but I tend to throw in the towel and just ask for a replacement or refund even though I have no idea how to send it back. Update (many months later): I was able to find someone to fix it (without having to drive an hour to leave so they can give it back to the company and I can come back to pick up another one). I stopped doing business with this company. Revane refused to email me and kept telling me they messaged them but I never got a reply. This is how it worked for me. Medium to medium when removing old stains. I'll keep going through them until they're gone, and in the meantime the strap has snapped. A carpet thread was stuck in the brushes and in the two seconds it took me to turn off the machine the belt appeared to be damaged. So today after a few weeks of not using it I'll be looking for a new one. Overall I would recommend this item but I encourage everyone to personally purchase it. There was no online customer service for me.
