This clear ruler is ideal for anyone who enjoys sewing, quilting or crafting. It's printed at 1/8" grid so you can measure both the width and length which is awesome. (I have another clear ruler that doesn't have a grid and is much more difficult to measure seam allowances with.) I ordered this to replace my old ruler that was badly cracked and faded. What I got must be an updated version because it differs from my old line in a good way! The grid and numbers are a darker shade of blue, making them much more visible. The numbers along an edge are much larger, making them easier to spot. No more squinting at a ruler trying to read tiny faded numbers! Also, small holes run the length of the ruler, allowing it to be used to draw circles. Simply stick a needle in one of the holes - whichever corresponds to the radius of the circle you want to draw - then place your pencil on the short edge and rotate the ruler to draw the circle. .The disadvantage is that the small holes do not allow using a suction cup with this ruler. When cutting with a slicer you need a stable ruler that can be fixed with the suction cup handle. (The handle lifts your hand off the ruler so you don't cut your fingers if you accidentally slip off the slicer. They're VERY sharp!) Well, unfortunately the small holes prevent the suction cup from sticking to the ruler. . So it doesn't work for cutting diagonal strips with a rotary cutter. This is a minor inconvenience, however, unless you were hoping to get by with just one universal ruler. I also appreciate that the numbers on the new ruler are oriented both ways, so you don't have to just rotate the ruler the other way. Read numbers. (Unless it's upside down, in which case the numbers are reversed, and yes, you have to turn it over.) But with my old ruler, I always had to turn it the other way just so I could read the numbers . No longer! And as a bonus, the new ruler has a hole on one end that you can use to hang it on a hook. In short, I am very satisfied with this line! It is much more convenient to use than my old one. I give it five stars and wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who sews, sews or crafts. Ideal for fabric measurements, pattern making, etc. PS Compare the old version with the new one, see attached photo.
