Review on πŸ“» Sangean PR-D9W Portable AM/FM/NOAA Alert Radio with Rechargeable Battery - White, Convenient One Size by Kenny Sanchez

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Key failed after two years of little use

The radio sounds good, works well and has many useful features. The reception was very good and stations were clearly received even from a great distance. I used it about 10-12 hours a month in the summer and about 2-4 hours a month in the winter. Programming your favorite stations is a little counterintuitive, but you can get by without too much hassle. Unfortunately, after about two years, it lost a key ability: remembering saved stations (19 of them) when the batteries died. Now, when the batteries run out (and sometimes even sooner), it immediately and inexplicably loses all of its stored stations and time, probably due to a bad capacitor or similar component. Sangean (manufacturer) did not respond to emails and phone. Called for several months but in the end they still responded and offered to fix it for about 50% of the purchase price which was no surprise. I haven't decided yet whether to invest in a repair or look for another radio that can meet my needs. So while I liked the radio and it worked well (originally 4 stars), for the price I expected it to last a lot longer with no problems, especially considering how well it's held up so it's a star cost. The lack of a response from the manufacturer for nearly three months cost him another.

Pros
  • Rugged design
Cons
  • Out of fashion

It has great, room filling audio, superior reception, and a solid weather alert system.
