Works great - but there are limitations

I have three of these, I bought one at a time. That suggests I like them enough to keep getting them. Usually they do exactly what they say. There are some limitations: it seems that all remotes and switches share a common radio signal. This can cause problems. For example, in my office I have a remote control and switch to turn on an oil filled heater for a few hours. I still have one in the family room to turn the Christmas tree lights on and off. Probably 25 feet and some walls separate the two places. However, when I turn on the light in the trees, the radiator lights up too! The signal is strong enough to travel that distance through walls. The "solution" is to stand in front of the switch you want to activate, hold the remote close to your chest, put your body between the remote and the switch you want to protect, and press the remote . Since you have a clear line on the device you want to change, it will activate. and since your body is blocking signals to another receiver, this doesn't change. After a while, the buttons on the remote control stop working. Clicking does nothing (there is no red light). The solution is to remove the battery. Bend the silver tabs in the middle of the remote to make better contact with the battery, then reinsert the battery. I've also found that taking a folded piece of paper and placing it under the battery (so it presses against the contact better) helped me. With these two comments justifying 4 stars I am very happy with it and would happily buy another one if needed!

Pros
  • I've always liked it
Cons
  • Not everything is as good as it says
