The most important aspect of a telephone system (at least for me) is the sound quality, both for me and for my subscribers. I bought this phone system specifically for my home office, thinking it would allow me to adjust the sound quality and turn up the volume. While the cordless handset does allow for both adjustments (and does both well), the desk phone simply has a volume control. Unfortunately, the volume control on my desk phone isn't loud enough to hear callers clearly. In fact, due to the relatively low volume, I have to turn off the nearby air conditioner to hear it, which is definitely a negative point for me. In addition, callers who were used to my previous telephone system complained that my voice now sounded muffled to them. The desk phone is easy to use and feels pretty solid. The speakerphone and various menu options are what you'd expect, although I've yet to figure out how to reduce the phone ringing when someone is calling. This seems like a silly remark, but it should be an option and it shouldn't be that hard! The keys on a desk phone are large and the backlit screen is fairly bright, both big pluses. The small, flat and light cordless handset stand could be better designed. I would have liked a heavier and deeper base. I bought a second cordless phone for my living room that works really well (although it always seems to tip over). I don't use an answering machine with this device, so I can't comment on that. Maybe I'm expecting too much from a cheap phone system. Overall, I'd say this phone system isn't bad, but it's not perfect.
