It turned out that a regular 1200w Giandel fridge with a pure sine wave inverter connected to my off-grid solar power system would be cheaper than a propane fridge (half price of everything shared). Despite the refrigerator's 160W rating, the old 450W inverter would not let it start due to the high inrush current. Giandel managed the climb at take-off, and the fridge hummed non-stop for three days with two car batteries powering it in parallel. The fan on the inverter turned on in the start cycle and turned off quickly at low loads. The big benefit of the inverter was the output power meter - it was invaluable for tracking actual power input/output. Didn't need tech support so can't comment on that.
