Review on ๐ŸŠ Rapid Monofin Swimming Flipper by FINIS by James Hardin

Great idea, terrible design

When I bought this fin I wasn't expecting perfection. I wanted to improve my dolphin kick so I thought this would be a great place to start. I was very, very wrong. While I can understand what Finis is trying to do here, I was disappointed not only with the craftsmanship but also with the construction of the fin itself. For starters, for the $80+ price tag, I really expected a little over two grand. rubber attached to a large piece of plastic. I could probably make something in a similar style for less money in my spare time. The rubber footpegs seem to pop with every impact, and the straps aren't very strong for that fun. For almost 100โ‚ฌ I really expected more. But the craftsmanship isn't as important as the design of the fin itself. I really don't understand why Finis didn't design a better fin. With its wide and long surface, this fin creates more resistance than movement. I could very easily cut the fin and create a much more effective biomimetic shape, but that would mean I couldn't get it back if something catastrophic happened. Also, I didn't have to mold a pre-made fin. Also, the drag that this fin creates has a HEAVY effect on the ankles. I mean HEAVY. I'm not new to finswimming. I've been doing this for years. I have never experienced such stress on my ankles in all of my bifin swims. After using this device for half an hour, I had to remove it. I'm used to swimming for hours. I am returning these fins immediately and urge anyone looking for a good beginner fin to look at something like the Finis shooter, foil or competitor monofins instead. If you REALLY want something decent, check out Dol-Fin's Lunocet monofin.
