We bought this to control the humidity in our caravan and to prevent the materials from deteriorating over time. We want to keep the humidity below 50% indoors. Based on data collected over 1 week we have determined that this device is simply not up to the task and that the description overstates the capabilities of this device. Our trailer is a 27 foot Airstream, about 180 square feet of living space and 1100 cubic feet or so. We found that operating the device had little to no effect on humidity levels in the room. Our tests included 7 periods of approximately 8 hours of operation, typically at night, during which the trailer's windows and vents remained closed. The temperature varied between 64 and 75 degrees during the tests, and was usually within about three degrees at the beginning and end of each test, and usually lower at the end of the test. Humidity and temperature were measured with a separate thermometer/hygrometer. During the tests, the humidity measured by a separate device increased three times, remained unchanged once, and decreased three times. It dropped significantly over the two nights, the outside temperature falling almost to freezing overnight resulting in the air outside the trailer being much drier and our heat pump and/or stove running to maintain the inside temperature during those nights. The amount of water removed during the tests varied from 75ml to 180ml, averaging about 130ml, just over half a glass. We tested with a separate small Vornado fan blowing the dryer at low speed from about 10 feet away. We've already found that even if the dehumidifier is on the edge of the table and facing the room, it won't continue to work because the fan isn't creating enough circulation in the room for it to dehumidify its small area and think it's doing its job and turns off and operates only a small percentage of the time unless there is separate airflow around it. The ambient humidity reported by the dryer was unreliable, typically reporting much less than a separate gauge installed next to the dryer. One thing that bothered me while working was that the power adapter got very hot, hotter than any of our other power adapters for computers or other devices. During our testing, it ran at 100% duty cycle as it was able to lower the humidity to the target level in just one night. We placed the PSU outdoors on a silicone pad to avoid damaging floor or table surfaces, and placed it on its side to expose the PSU's maximum area to radiant heat. After some time of use it still felt hot. I would be concerned that operating at this temperature would quickly wear out the power supply or the cables they are connected to. He needs a higher power supply or one that has better heat transfer ability. It will likely work to dehumidify a smaller enclosed space that doesn't have a lot of air going in and out, but it shouldn't be rated as dehumidifying the amount of space stated in the product description. It certainly removed some of the moisture from the air but I think a much more efficient dehumidifier would be needed to meet our needs in our caravan.
