This is a cable that connects two Windows computers together so that one can use the other's files. It doesn't need more. The software resides in the Windows operating system. If it was not installed on the computers during setup, it must be added from the installation CDs using the Add Programs feature. I used it with Windows 98. It usually replaces the printer cable, so you have to plug and unplug it - or you can put a switch. It reverses the wiring, so this cable cannot be used to connect directly to a printer.
