It heats the water as it should and the handle gets hot. But it's not that uncomfortable...so you can still grab it with your bare hands. That's enough for two cups of coffee. Although this kettle needs a little more work as it's not as functional as more modern coffee pots. The whole process is a pleasure for my wife...so it's perfect for her.
