Review on Keurig K-Classic Coffee Maker Rhubarb Edition: Single Serve Brewer for 6 to 10 Oz. Brew Sizes by Angie Anderson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

This Keurig is my favorite kitchen gadget and worth the money!

Coffee lovers, apart from the occasional seasonally flavored latte, but have had a hard time keeping up with my very active twin babies. We already had a standard coffee maker, but I didn't want to make a whole cup of coffee in one go, and single-shot coffee makers seem to be very popular, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to try. I've seen various Keurig models, from the simplest to the very trendy, but I wanted to buy one that would meet my needs for making a cup of coffee and wasn't too expensive, so I settled on a Keurig K55 coffee maker in black. When the Keurig arrived I eagerly opened the box to set it up and use it! I found it fairly easy to set up as it comes with a use and care guide and the step-by-step instructions are easy to follow. I'd say it only takes a few minutes to set up and then you're ready to brew your first cup of coffee. There are indicator lights on the coffee maker that illuminate and guide you through the brewing process but once you get used to it it becomes second nature and now I don't even have to think about what's good in the early morning when I'm not thinking and I am need my coffee! Preparation: Brewing a cup of coffee is very simple. You must turn on the brewer by pressing the power button. The power button and heat indicators will illuminate and the Keurig will make a noise as it heats up. When the three cup sizes are highlighted in blue, you know it's time to brew coffee. Place the coffee mug on the drip tray and lift the handle of the K-cup holder. Place the K-Cup in the holder and fully lower the handle until the three cup sizes flash. Three sizes: small cup (5.25 oz), small cup (7.25 oz) and large cup (9.25 oz). Choose a size and your coffee will be ready in about a minute. If there is not enough water in the tank, the refill water indicator will light up and the process will not continue until you fill the tank. Once it stops dripping, you can take out the mug and enjoy your coffee! If someone else wants to make a cup of coffee right after making coffee, they just need to take out your K-cup since it's disposable, add their own and repeat the process. Water tank: The water tank holds 48 capsules. ounces of water so you don't have to refill it every time you want to make a new cup of coffee, which is one of the reasons I chose this model. I make about two cups of coffee every day, so I fill up the tank every few days. There are water filters out there, but I buy bottled water so I don't use filters yet. When the tank needs to be filled, I take the tank out, remove the cap, fill it with water, put the tank back in the Keurig and put the cap back on. Cleaning: I find this Keurig to be fairly easy to clean. The drip tray is removable and I usually wipe it down with a damp paper towel a few times a week, sometimes washing it with water, sometimes with soapy water. I like wiping the outside too, as coffee splatters get left on the front of the Keurig. You can also clean the capsule holder, funnel, needles, water tank and lid. Be careful as the two needles used to poke the holes in the K-Cup capsules are very sharp. Coffee pods (the best!): The Keurig K55 coffee maker uses K-cup pods, which you can buy just about anywhere, and there are many brands and flavors to choose from. You don't have to buy a specific brand for this coffee maker. As long as they're K-Cups they should work and I haven't come across any capsules that don't work. I had a lot of fun buying different flavors and brands as I have several friends and family members who also have Keurigs so it's a lot of fun to swap coffee! I prefer flavored coffees and there are so many to try, but my favorites are Green Mountain flavors in Caramel Vanilla Cream and Wild Mountain Blueberry. K-Cup capsules come in a variety of price ranges and it's nice to have this option as everyone's budget is different. The beauty of this brewery is that the flavors don't mix from one cup to the next. For example, my mom and I brewed cups of coffee back to back (different flavors) and neither of us noticed any difference in flavor in our cups. I've only made one cup of cider with it and didn't notice the old coffee taste in cider or cider on my next cup of coffee. You can use all types of coffee flavors in this coffee maker, from flavored to medium and dark roast, from hot chocolate to apple cider. I usually go for the small cup (7.25 oz) as I love the taste. It's not too strong or too diluted for me, but others may prefer different settings. Programmable auto-off timer: You can set the brewer to switch off two hours after the last cup of coffee has been brewed (included in the instructions). I just turn Keurig on and off as needed, but it's good that there is such an option. Noise: Some people have commented that this coffee maker is noisy. I found it to be loudest when it's taking water from the tank and it sounds like a loud hum. It's not too loud when making coffee. Sometimes I get up earlier than my husband and kids and make myself a cup of coffee and no one wakes up (I'd say there's about 30 feet between the kitchen and the bedrooms with the doors closed). When guests come over and they make coffee before I wake up, I don't hear it at all. This Keurig is made in China and I had the date August 2016 on the box a month before I bought it. I've been using it for two months now and haven't had any problems with it at all. It measures approximately 12 inches deep (front to back), 9 inches wide (side to side) and 13 1/2 inches high. I had several family members using it and my parents and in-laws found it pretty easy to use after I showed them how to brew coffee as we all have different models. Since I started drinking coffee I've had better success staying more alert and alert to take care of my twins and buying this Keurig was worth every penny spent on it! I have no regrets about the purchase and had a lot of fun trying different flavors. As with all my reviews, and particularly all appliance and electronics reviews, I will update this review regularly, adding any new information I discover and adjusting my thoughts and star rating as necessary. If you or someone you know is interested in Keurig, I highly recommend it. It's a great model that's good for your wallet and will make you a great cup of coffee as often as you want! works great for us! I now routinely make four cups of coffee a day to keep up with my kids and have had no issues with this Keurig. When we have guests and change capsules frequently, I don't notice any odd taste at all (because we all love different flavors). I clean the drip tray and wipe down the whole car at least once a week to keep it looking good. We only use bottled water in it so I've never had to use a filter. When we go away for a few days, I always wipe everything down and empty the water tank so it can air out and dry. I still highly recommend this Keurig if you want a good one cup coffee maker that isn't outrageously expensive!
