Despite some friends raving reviews I was hesitant to buy these because 2 year old watercolors sounded like a mess. Finally bought to use as an Easter basket and I'm very glad I did. I keep one in my purse for restaurant/reception/church entertainment. You simply fill the little pen with some water and squeeze the tip to make it work. Each book has some thick pages that your child just needs to brush over with a wet brush to bring out the colors. This is great for younger children who want to color because they can see how the different colors appear perfectly in the lines even though they aren't old enough to handle it on their own. The 5 year old we dated the other day also enjoyed it so I think it would work for any age. After the paint dries (long enough for the child to enjoy the beautiful picture, but not so long that they can't pull it out after an hour or two), they can start again. A really great no-hassle instant gratification product for busy little minds!
