Better than Schleich for toddlers

My 18 month old son loves animals especially dogs and cats so I was looking for an animal set that was the right size for his age. I am very picky about the toys my son plays with and try to buy as many wooden toys as possible. If you have seen the prices of wooden animal figurines you know as well as I do that either you must be rich or your kid only has about 5 toys when you buy them. Sometimes less is more, but I just like these plastic figures. Yes, they show stitching, and no, these are not Waldorf toy heirlooms. But my son loved them at first sight, especially the golden retriever. These animals are big! We have several Schleich animals and they are much larger. Schleich animals are for ages 3+ and animals from Learning Resources - 24 months+. I think they are great for my 18 month old son. He definitely can't swallow it. They are not exactly to scale as the bunny is the same size as the cat which is only slightly smaller than the dog but my son doesn't care. He likes to let them run and make noises for the dog and cat. They also help him identify other animals like fish and birds. The animals are cute and, according to the manufacturer, are made of non-toxic materials. When I opened it, I didn't notice any strong smell. Yes, when you smell them, they smell like plastic, but they are plastic. If you don't like plastic toys, you probably shouldn't buy them for your child. I found it worth mentioning that Healthystuff.org rated Schleich's figures as moderately dangerous. I did not find any learning resource characters on this website. Overall I really like them and although they are expensive they are smaller than a set of Schleich animals if you buy 6 of them. They are bigger too. I also bought a set of Safari Ltd Pets TOOBs and suspect they are too small and pose some choking hazard. I will keep them until my son is 3 years old and hopefully won't put toys in his mouth anymore. I advise you to try it. I plan to buy more sets like farm animals and dinosaurs.
