Review on LifeStraw Go Water Filter Bottle: The Ultimate 2-Stage Solution for Hiking, Backpacking, and Travel by Michael Lara

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The filter is disabled when not in use.

So I'm trying a few methods to clean up the water for a hike I'm doing with TRT next year. This bottle is my first experiment and I received it yesterday. Today I opened a bottle of LifeStraw Go, read all the directions and followed them to the letter. I'll admit I'm nervous as this filter isn't good enough to filter viruses like the big LifeStraw filters and some other water bottle brands. Therefore, without this possibility, I would not rate a bottle with more than 4 stars. Anyway, I stopped at Topaz Lake on the California-Nevada border, drew some water and drank it for the next few hours. I am writing this now, 9 hours later and have not yet experienced any side effects. So far so good LifeStraw Go! After reading many other reviews I was skeptical about the suction power required to drink and the fragility of this bottle. 1) Suction: I admit I'm surprised at how easy it is to drink through a straw. While the flow rate may be a bit slower than my camel straw water bottle, this is a minor reduction. I have to say I really don't see how this can be a complaint unless some people are suffering from broken filters or user error. 2) Fragility: Although the bottle seems strong enough, and although I didn't break it on anything, I gently tapped it with no damage. I plan to use it daily for the next few weeks drinking from mountain streams here in the Sierra Nevada mountains and will update this review as I go. Update: So I deducted a few stars for this product because the stream rate went to zero. after it has stood for a few weeks before you pick it up again. My guess is that it would probably still work if I used it every day, but since I don't live in a third world country I only need it occasionally. If I have to buy a new filter every time I want to camp or go camping with it, it's not worth the cost compared to other options on the market.
