So my bathroom drain in the basement gets clogged a lot, I guess because it has a long stretch of fairly straight pipe. A line extension was needed back in March 2020, but this often resulted in debris going down the nearest drain and all my main floor sinks going upstairs. Given the Covid restrictions and the fact that calling a plumber would be difficult if that were the case, the only thing I lived with was a slow-draining sink. So fast forward 8 months and now I can't use the sink as it only takes a day to drain the water after washing my hands. So, having nothing to lose, I ordered this Homesolv enzymatic drain cleaner. He arrived yesterday. I haven't used the sink for a while so the water level was below the level of the drain and I was able to put the recommended 1/3 bottle in where it rose to the top of the drain. I thought it would sit like that for a long time, but no, I heard some noise, maybe a gurgle or hiss, and the level dropped. I added more, it decreased. I ended up pouring the whole bottle and she went downstairs, I couldn't see her in the sewers. Ten hours later I let the water run. It's happened again, but more like it was a few months ago. I could wash my hands and in a few minutes it would dry. Still not free flowing but a HUGE improvement. Even while my other holdings are not backed up. So now I'm pouring some more (yes I bought two bottles) and adding little by little, maybe 5 ounces, let sit 6 hours and run the water to see if it improves further. EDIT: Update December 28th. I poured the rest of the second bottle down the drain and left it overnight. He worked pretty well for a week but ended up being a little supportive but didn't stay long. But now I can walk hard and long on the water and there is no backup. The drain is free and clean and I have NEVER brought a snake anywhere near it. I love it, this stuff worked really great. I think he may have stuck with the scale and continued eating it even though I drained a lot of water and over time the drain seems to have completely cleared. One note, it looks like the trap can hold 6-8 oz. So I think 10-12 ounces or more would need to be poured down the drain at a time to ensure the rest of the pipe is treated. It might also have been useful to me that the pipe in this drain runs close to horizontal. about 6 feet to a larger drain. While this may have helped keep CitraSolv in place for the scaling task, it could also be why this drain pipe clogs so easily.
