I have an old ICY Dock with a 1 TB Western Digital Caviar Green hard drive. The ICY Dock has a USB 2 port and an eSATA port. I wanted an ICY Dock Case via eSATA to my MacMini running Mojave Ver. 10.14.3. I also had a new 1TB LaCie external SSD connected as USB 3. I've tried connecting the ICY docking station directly to the MacMini's USB port and also through a USB hub. Regardless of the configuration, Mojave crashed every now and then. The drive worked fine for a while, but when the system froze the only way to start the Mac again was to turn the Mac off and on again - a hard reset. It even worked enough to be able to reformat the 1TB WD drive. The constant Mojave hard reset seems to have messed up the OS and I had to reinstall Mojave from scratch multiple times. Finally I removed the ICY Dock eSATA connection and my system worked. I will be replacing my case with a new one with USB 3 support.
