Review on packagecloud by David Moreno

Free cloud service with reasonable pricing

The thing I like about PackageCloud is that it's free to use for open source projects and their API documentation are very well explained if you have any doubts or questions in-between your coding sessions. It has an easy way of deploying apps using Docker, so no hassle, just drop them into the repository from there! If it gets too slow at some point, then try another alternative as they don't offer much support (unless you pay). But, this was not our experience. We used PackageCloud to deploy applications which were written using ReactJS framework and later moved to Elixir/Phoenix Framework so we could write less code in order to get things done sooner. This helped us save time & also reduced errors since we wrote less code than otherwise would be needed. Also, when compared to other solutions available out there, it seems they're offering lower prices than others but the functionality offered isn’t comparable.

Pros
  • Easy setup.
  • No need having previous knowledge how docker works before moving along with setting up packages locally through CLI tools (i'm pretty sure its quite obvious what command does), thus making learning curve super low,
  • Not expensive service provided by PkgCloue; however pricing plans can range between $10 / month upwards depending
Cons
  • Some cons
