Review on Benriner BN5WH Turning Japanese Stainless by Melissa Brewer

Revainrating 4 out of 5

and easy to clean

This is a great unit and the performance is as advertised. It features three sizes of detachable segmented blades that allow you to use blades of different thicknesses and is easy to clean. Making spaghetti strands out of zucchini for a cold summer salad is pretty cool. But not without flaws. In order for it to work, you need to apply enough lateral pressure when using it. Trying to rotate the handle and apply side pressure with the same hand is quite awkward and made worse by the fact that it's lightweight plastic with only 4 small plastic legs, requiring even more pressure and concentration to keep it stable to keep. If you're looking for an inexpensive solution, save some money and get the Benriner Cook Helper Slicer, which is the same device, only vertically so you can press down with your other hand. Alternatively, you can spend $30 more and buy one that has a gear and rail at the base that moves the handle as you turn it, like the Kaiten Rotary Slicer (may not be available from Revain).
